~ Cake Smash Preparation Guide ~

Studio

Cake smash sessions are held in my studio located in Taylors Lakes Victoria. It is best to book your session when your little one is 6-7mths old to be sure you get in for when they are ready at 10mths-12mths old for their Cakesmash, the earlier you do it the better it is, If you book your session for when your baby is 10mths of age you will have your images back in time for the First Birthday celebrations  the session takes approx 45 mins.

Allergies

Offering your child a cake during their session that has ingredients they have never had before isn’t a great idea. This one may seem obvious, but it isn’t always to everyone. It’s something to keep in mind. So please make sure that you little one has had cake Eggs flour etc and icing before the Cake Smash. Also be aware that depending on the colours you choose for your cake smash the food coloring may tinge your bubs skin. This will come out later in the day x

Set Ups

I have a fantastic selection of Backdrops ideas it's as simple as choosing one and then we match the outfit, cake props to suit your chosen Theme. If you wish to do a theme that's not already here shown on our website please contact me. I love a challenge and am always looking for new creative ideas. We can swap and change most of the props/set ups around it is a collaboration of both our minds and ideas.

Outfit Choices

I have so many to choose from however if you want to provide your own outfit that is great please be aware it will be covered in cake at some point and may get stained from the icing.

The Cake

For cake smash sessions, the cake can be as simple or detailed as you would like. I use a local Cakemaker who can customise the cake any way we choose. The cake can also be made egg, dairy free or gluten free. We try to limit the use of fondant so most cakes will be made with buttercream icing. please look at the selections in the cake section. Please be sure to have tested your baby with eggs, dairy Flour etc before the cakesmash so if  required we can  request an allergy free cake.

Preparation

Cake smashing with a tired baby is not fun for anyone please try to have your baby well rested and try not schedule your Cakesmash around a time when your baby has had a big change in routine. For Example don't schedule your session the afternoon of the very first time they have been to childcare or had immunisations. Once you arrive I will play on the floor with your baby making some sounds and testing them with my fine singing voice! This is done to see what gets their attention these are the sounds I will use during the shoot. Once I feel like they are comfortable we will get started. Cakesmash is so much fun when done correctly I have loads of experience in this genre of photography and will be sure to get a fantastic gallery for you.

It is common for kids to be shy on arrival please don't force your child to perform for the camera before they able to relax and settle in I will often have a little play with them until I can see they comfortable in the studio surrounding. This helps to capture your childs personality and lifelong memories with ease.

The cake smash session will also get very messy, so it's important for Mums and Dads to bring a spare set of clothes to wear home after they have been holding the cake covered baby.

Please bring towels and face cloths for after bath time.

It’s also a great idea to bring along drinks & snacks Cakesmash Photoshoots can be so tiring for little ones!!

Bath Time & Clean Up!

After we finish with the Cakesmash we will then have a lovely warm bubble bath prepared for baby to hop in get clean please bring your own bath wash if your baby has sensitive skin, Hopefully they give us some extra smiles where lots of splashing is encouraged. We will finish the session with the cute bath shots that you see on my cake smash images. Although the bath will  have water and bubbles  They will most defiantly need another bath when they get home as they are nice and greasy from the icing.
