~ Most Commonly Asked Questions for a  Newborn Photography Session ~

Here are some the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) I often receive before a Newborn photography session. I thought to myself why not summarise these here to give you much more in-depth and easy to read information, whilst you are browsing my website. This information should give you a good overview of what to expect during your Newborn photography session.

However, please feel free to contact me if I have left any questions unanswered for you.

When is the ideal time to have a Newborn session and how long before my Childs Birth should I schedule this in?

The ideal time to have a Newborn session is within the first 14 days from your baby’s birth. During this time, your little one still has the “curl”, which simply means their arms and legs still curl up easily. After two weeks your baby will make a big jump in growth and their arms and legs will stretch out more. Also within the first 14 days, your baby falls into this so-called “choma sleep” after being fed. That way we can wrap him/her easily into wraps or move their arms and legs around without disturbing them too much. They sleep for much longer periods as well. After a few weeks your baby will start to be more active and much more aware of their surroundings as they are starting to develop their sight more and more. Don’t get me wrong, after 2 weeks you can still get gorgeous images, however, the typical Newborn poses most likely won’t be possible.  There are other ways advantages to photographing a slightly older baby  and your images will be equally as beautiful so please don't stress if something doesn't go to plan and we have to postpone your session.

To schedule a session it is recommended to Email in during your first 2 trimesters of pregnancy. Once you request your due date month I will ask for a deposit to secure your session. As soon as baby has arrived you let me know usually within 48hrs of birth and I send you the availability for the coming 2 week period.

How long will the Newborn session last? If a session takes longer, what happens then?

A  single Newborn session normally lasts around 2 hours. As you simply cannot direct a small Newborn, we adapt to his or her schedule. So if they don't want to sleep or they are a bit cranky and you need to attend to his/her needs, then that is more than ok. We will have plenty of time to capture your precious one. Patience is definitely one of my strong points you will be amazed at my many baby whispering techniques I have learnt over the years and you might even be able to put some of them into practice once you get back home.

What is included in the price?

All pricing packages are clearly stated above in the pricing Tab along with your chance to Level up your package to include extra images prints and albums.

What should I pay attention to prior to the session? How do I prepare?
  • Number One Priority and very important is to feed your baby just before you leave home if your baby is asleep a nice warm bath will wake them gently for any unscheduled feeds. Try to keep your baby awake as much as possible in the few hours before your shoot it will ensure they drift off once you arrive and help us get as many set ups as possible.

  • Dress your baby in a jumpsuit one size too big with no singlet, this helps me on arrival to not disturb baby too much whilst getting them ready for the first shot of the day.

  • Bring a dummy if you have one it can sometimes save a particular shot. I can Recommend Jolly pops dummies for Newborns it seems to be the one that works best with all my teeny tiny clients.

What Do I need to  bring and what will you provide?
  • I will provide everything prop wise for baby during the session but of course if you have a certain sentimental toy, hat, blankey, etc please feel free to bring it along and be sure to show me at the start of our time together and I will incorporate it for sure.

  • Breast feeding or bottle feeding please expect to feed or even just top up usually at least once during the session I will have instant hot water etc available in the studio.

  • All of my props blankets will be washed and sanitised after every session please don't stress over your baby making a mess on my things it happens all the time and is not an issue. Naked Newborns pooping or weeing when naked who would've thought!

  • P.S they do get a gold star for doing it on Mum or Dad and not me...

How long after the session can we expect the images
If you choose to have some sneaky peeks they will be posted on my social media pages within 48hrs
Your fully edited gallery download will be ready 2-3 weeks after your session.

I would like to use an image or two for my birth announcement card, would this be possible?

Of course! If you let me know in advance that this is the case, I can make sure to edit and provide you with one high resolution image for your Birth announcement cards shortly after the session.

I would like my other children to be part of the shoot, is this possible?

If you have selected the Wrapped Newborn or Full Newborn + family Package then yes this is what is this session is all about including the whole gang. If you have other kids and you want sibling photos done you must select this session type. I highly recommend if you are not including siblings that you leave them at home it is a very hot sometimes 2-3hrs long session for Newborns. It is definitely not a small child or unpredictable toddlers ideal environment. Even if you are including them it might be good idea for the kids to just be brought into the studio for the time that they are required. Lucky for my clients I have a major shopping centre or a local park literally 3mins away.

When do I Pay?

You will need to pay a deposit on booking your timeslot.

The remaining balance of your shoot will need to be paid on arrival in cash or bank transfer unless previously organised.

I do not have a credit card facility.

I often have clients pay off their sessions over the months leading up to their booking this option is available for sure just get in touch and we can organise a plan.
